FolioFolio
Privacy

Your manuscript stays yours.

Folio is local-first by design. Your book lives on your disk as plain Markdown. We do not host it, sync it, or read it.

What we don't collect

  • No telemetry or analytics from the desktop app.
  • No copies of your manuscript on our servers.
  • No tracking of which features you use, when, or how often.

AI providers

Folio's AI features are bring-your-own-key. When you use them, your prompts and selected text are sent directly from your machine to the provider you configured (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.) under their privacy policy. Folio never proxies or stores those requests. For fully offline writing, run Gemma locally — nothing leaves your machine.

The waitlist

If you sign up for the upcoming Hosted plan waitlist, we store the email address you submit and the page it came from. We use it only to email you when Hosted is available. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing the address below.

The website

This marketing site is statically rendered. We don't set advertising cookies and we don't run third-party trackers. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, requested URL) may be retained briefly by our hosting provider for abuse prevention.

The Hosted plan (when it ships)

The future Hosted plan will store your books in encrypted cloud storage and proxy AI calls on your behalf. When it launches, this page will be updated with the specifics — what's stored, where, for how long, and how to export or delete it.
